Installation, replacement and repair are different requests
Describe what is already in place and what you want to change. A new opening, a damaged pane and an existing assembly that needs attention may require different work.
New glass installation
A new installation starts with the opening, support and intended use. Ask about custom-cut panels for interior features, office partitions, displays or a commercial storefront.
Glass replacement
Replacement removes the existing glass and fits new glass or a glass unit. This can be a question for a cracked pane, damaged door glass or fogged insulated glass. The surrounding frame and actual condition need to be assessed.
Repair and assessment
Tell SDS whether the problem involves the glass, frame or hardware. A request described as a repair may require glass replacement; do not assume a crack can be patched or that every mechanical issue falls within the service scope.
Residential and commercial applications
For a home, ask about custom-sized window glass, insulated glass replacement, cabinet or interior glass, and other fitted panels. For a business, discuss storefront glazing, commercial door glass, partitions or display areas.
If the project is specifically a shower enclosure, custom mirror or window replacement, use the related service page for more detailed guidance. Unusual access, building conditions and hardware requirements should be described in the first inquiry.
Discuss the material for the intended use
SDS’s service information lists insulated glass, tempered or laminated safety glass, and plexiglass or polycarbonate panels. These materials are not interchangeable. Explain whether the panel is for a window, door, workshop, interior feature or commercial setting.
Ask SDS to confirm the appropriate material, thickness, finish, availability and installation requirements for the application. This site does not promise a particular security rating, code certification or performance result.
Describe the glass, confirm the scope
Show what needs attention
Share the location of the glass, approximate dimensions, frame type and a description of damage or desired changes. Take photos only if it is safe; do not handle broken glass to obtain measurements.
Discuss assessment and specifications
Confirm whether the work involves new installation, glass replacement or a repair assessment. Ask what measurements, material identification and site information SDS needs before quoting or ordering.
Agree on installation or repair arrangements
Confirm the material and scope, access to the work area and any removal or preparation requirements. Availability and scheduling are project-specific; emergency or same-day service is not promised here.
Questions about glass installation and repair
Can cracked glass be repaired without replacing it?
Do not assume that a cracked pane can be patched. Contact SDS with the type of glass, where it is installed and the visible damage. The appropriate replacement or repair scope needs to be assessed.
What materials can I ask about?
The service information lists insulated glass, tempered and laminated safety glass, plexiglass and polycarbonate. Ask which material is suitable and available for your specific opening; the final specification must be confirmed.
Can I inquire about commercial door or storefront glass?
Yes. Commercial door glass and storefront installation or repair are listed services. Include photographs, approximate dimensions and any access or hardware concerns so SDS can confirm the scope.
What information helps with a damaged-glass inquiry?
Describe the opening, damage, glass appearance and surrounding frame. A safe-distance photo can be useful. Do not remove fragments or touch sharp edges to collect information.
